How we write our recipes

PlateMap is an independent project. This page explains how a recipe gets onto the site, and what we do and don't promise.

Research

Each recipe is researched from several published recipes and references in English and Arabic. We compare them for the traditional ingredients, amounts, times and temperatures, then write the recipe in our own words.

Review for accuracy

Before a recipe is published, and whenever we update it, we check that every ingredient on the list is used in the steps, that amounts and times agree with each other, and that what we say about the dish is correct.

What we don't claim

Our recipes are not tested in a test kitchen. Amounts and times are written carefully, but ovens, stoves and ingredients differ, so use your judgement and follow basic food safety, especially with meat, poultry, eggs and seafood.

Allergens

The allergens on each recipe are checked against its ingredient list, including ready-made products such as stock, soy sauce and pastry. They are a guide only. Brands differ, so always read the label if you have an allergy.

Alcohol and pork

When a recipe uses alcohol or pork, we give a substitution for readers who don't eat them.

Nutrition

Calories and nutrients are estimates calculated from USDA data and product labels, not lab measurements.

Photos

The images that accompany the recipes are illustrations generated with AI, and may not match the dish exactly.

No sponsored recipes

No brand pays to appear in our recipes.

Corrections

Found a mistake, such as a wrong amount, a missing step or an allergen we missed? Email support@platemap.app. We read every report, and when a mistake is confirmed we correct the recipe.
